Invisalign invisible braces are fast becoming a popular treatment option for adult patients of our Bondi Junction, NSW dental clinic. Indeed, the clear plastic aligners fit in well with the adult lifestyle because they are so much more discreet than a mouth full of metal wires and brackets.

One of the most crucial aspects of Invisalign invisible braces is compliance—that is, committing to wearing the clear aligners for 22 hours each day. It can be uncomfortable at times—and even a hassle—so it’s a good idea to establish a consistent routine you can maintain throughout your treatment. Most people need to wear the aligners for one year to 18 months, so starting good habits from the start is best.

Keep Track of Your Daily Wear Time

When you are first adjusting to a new lifestyle with Invisalign, you’ll probably find yourself taking them out frequently. But it is essential you consistently wear the plastic aligners for at least 22 hours each day if you are to reach your smile goals. There are apps available that make it easy to track your time, or you can use a paper calendar or spreadsheet if you prefer to do it the 'old-fashioned' way.

Remove Your Aligners Safely and Hygienically

Because the aligners are clear, it’s easy to lose track of them. Perhaps you sit down for a meal and wrap them in a napkin—then forget you’ve done that and throw the napkin into the bin, with your aligners still wrapped inside. Be sure to keep them away from pets who enjoy chewing on them.

As your treatment continues, the aligners get tighter, making removal more difficult. Talk to your dentist about tools for safely removing your aligners without nail gashes if you are struggling to pry them out.

Put aligners in a case to keep them safe when you remove them.

Keep Your Trays Clean

Try to avoid the temptation to ‘cheat’ when wearing your aligners. For example, don’t drink those last dregs of tea while still wearing your aligners. You don’t want stains to build up on your trays.

Follow your Invisalign dentist’s instructions and clean your aligners frequently.

Changing Your Invisalign Aligners and Full-Time Wear

Firstly, when you change your aligners over, well, we will ask you, in general, to change your aligners to new aligners every two weeks as long as you are wearing your aligners full-time. And full time means 20 to 22 hours a day, taking them out only for eating and tooth cleaning. If you wear them less than 18 hours in a day, your teeth will move in the direction we want for 18 hours and then backward for the next 6 hours you ...

Woman smiling showing her straight teeth
If you think misaligned teeth are purely a cosmetic problem, think again. Having straight teeth isn’t just about showing off your beautiful smile. There are real health benefits, too.
The general health of the body is determined by how food is chewed and digested by the body. Your bite should be properly aligned to chew the food effectively.

A misaligned bite can cause teeth to wear out prematurely and possibly cause disorders with the temporomandibular joint (TMJ). The misalignment of teeth can also cause what is known as a ‘bad bite’, which can cause you to chip a tooth. If not treated, chips can sometimes lead ...
