  • Always store them in their case when not in use, especially during meals, to avoid losing or damaging them.
  • Keep them out of reach of pets, as dogs especially love to chew on them.
  • Brush your aligners gently with a toothbrush and toothpaste, and rinse them with lukewarm water. Never use hot water, as it can warp the plastic.
  • Avoid smoking while wearing your aligners to prevent discoloration.

Dental Implants

Dental implants are permanent tooth replacements designed to replace missing teeth from the root up. They consist of a titanium post that is surgically placed into the jawbone, acting as an artificial tooth root. Once healed, a custom-made dental crown is attached to restore the appearance and function of your smile.

At Paddington Dentistry, dental implants are used to help patients regain confidence, improve chewing ability, and protect long-term oral health.

A Natural-Looking Tooth Replacement Option

One of the biggest advantages of dental implants is how closely they mimic natural teeth. They are designed to blend seamlessly with your smile while providing long-term stability and comfort.

If you are considering dental implants please give us a call today to schedule your consultation.

When a tooth is lost, the jawbone in that area begins to shrink due to lack of stimulation. This process can start within months and continues over time. In many cases, patients also notice neighbouring teeth drifting into the gap, which can affect the bite and make cleaning more difficult. Over time, this may lead to uneven wear, gum problems, and even changes in facial support. If you are considering dental implants in Sydney, replacing a missing tooth early helps preserve both bone and long-term oral health.
There are several options to replace a missing tooth, including bridges and dentures. However, dental implants are considered the most advanced solution because they replace both the tooth and its root. This helps maintain bone structure and provides a stable, long-term result. For patients looking for a long-lasting solution, dental implants in Paddington and Woollahra are often the preferred choice.
Once placed, the implant gradually bonds with the surrounding bone, becoming stable enough to support a replacement tooth. After healing, a custom-made crown is attached to the implant, restoring both function and appearance. In most cases, dental implants feel and function very similarly to natural teeth.
Most adults are suitable candidates for dental implants in Sydney, particularly if they have healthy gums and adequate bone support. We assess each case individually, taking into account gum health, bone quality, and medical history. Even if bone volume is reduced, procedures like bone grafting can often make treatment possible. A proper consultation is the best way to determine suitability.
Bone loss is common after a tooth has been missing for some time. In many cases, we can rebuild the area using bone grafting, allowing implants to be placed safely and predictably. Modern techniques make dental implants possible for many patients who were previously told they were not suitable.
In most cases, the dental implant process takes a few months: Implant placement: one visit Healing period: typically 6 to 12 weeks Final crown placement: 1–2 visits Some patients may be suitable for same-day temporary teeth, depending on their individual case.
In selected cases, it is possible to place a temporary tooth on the same day as the implant. However, this depends on bone quality and stability. A thorough assessment is required to ensure this approach is safe and predictable.

The procedure is performed under local anaesthetic, so you should not feel pain during treatment.

Most patients find the experience more comfortable than expected. After the procedure, mild discomfort or swelling for a few days is normal and usually manageable with simple pain relief.

Yes—dental implants are a safe and well-established treatment with success rates of over 90–95% when properly planned and maintained.

They have been used in dentistry for decades and are supported by extensive clinical research.

While complications are uncommon, they can include:

  • Infection
  • Failure of the implant to integrate with the bone
  • Gum inflammation over time

Choosing an experienced implant dentist in Sydney and attending regular follow-ups significantly reduces these risks.

The cost of dental implants in Sydney depends on the complexity of the case and whether additional procedures are required.

In most cases, a single dental implant typically ranges between $4,000 to $7,000. This reflects the precision, materials, and long-term planning involved in achieving a stable result.

A consultation allows us to provide a clear, personalised treatment plan and cost estimate.

Dental implants are considered a long-term investment in your oral health.

Unlike other options, they help preserve bone, maintain bite stability, and do not rely on neighbouring teeth. This reduces the likelihood of future dental problems.

For many patients, the durability, comfort, and natural appearance make dental implants a worthwhile choice.

Dental implants are usually classified as a major dental treatment.

Some private health funds may contribute to parts of the treatment, such as the crown, depending on your level of cover. We provide itemised treatment plans to help you understand your benefits.

Preventative & General Dentistry

lady smilingFor most people, we recommend they visit the dentist once every six months for routine check-ups and cleans. With some patients, such as those who are more prone to tooth decay or who are experiencing gum disease, we might recommend a more frequent schedule. This can all be discussed in person with your dentist as to how often you should visit based on your individual needs.

Regular Dental Visits

Many people might wonder why they need to visit the dentist if they are not having any problems with their teeth. It’s important to note that many times, dental issues can come up with no symptoms at all. For example, by the time gums start bleeding, periodontal disease may have taken hold, making it more difficult to treat. By seeing the dentist twice each year, patients can be assured that their oral health is in good shape.

In addition, the earlier problems with your mouth are identified, the less invasive and of the less expensive is the treatment. Regular trips to the dentist are a great way to avoid dental emergencies as well.

Contact Our Practice

If it’s been a while since your last visit, we invite you to contact our Paddington, NSW dental clinic. We always welcome new patients.

A dental splint (also called a night guard or mouthguard) is a custom-made appliance worn over your teeth to protect them from grinding (bruxism) and clenching. It acts as a barrier to prevent tooth wear, fractures, and jaw strain.

Teeth grinding can cause serious damage over time, including worn enamel, cracked teeth, jaw pain, and headaches. A custom dental splint helps protect your teeth and reduces pressure on your jaw muscles and joints.

Sedation Dentistry

The sedation only lasts as long as the appointment, and can be stopped at any time.  You may drive after your appointment.

Nitrous Oxide Sedation is a pleasant, relaxing feeling. It reduces anxiety, sensitivity to pain and gag reflexes. It will not put you to sleep. It's a safe and effective method of administering conscious sedation — which means that you'll stay awake during the procedure. But when nitrous oxide is used in combination with a local anesthetic, you won't feel pain or anxiety. In fact, many patients report a feeling of well-being during these types of sedation.

Children are much more comfortable and relaxed with Nitrous Oxide Sedation. They often do not need freezing for fillings on baby teeth if they receive Nitrous Oxide Sedation, which is much easier for them.  It may even be fun!

Patients who will be receiving Nitrous Oxide Sedation should have an empty stomach- No heavy meals within 2 hours please, or 30 minutes for a light snack.

Patients who cannot breathe through their nose or have lung problems should not receive Nitrous Oxide.

Nitrous Oxide (N2O) known as Happy Gas is a simple gas that, when inhaled, causes rapid analgesia (pain relief), euphoria, mild sedation, and sometimes psychedelic dissociation. It has been used in dentistry since the mid-1800's and recreationally since the late 1700's when it earned the name "laughing gas" because of its tendency to cause laughter in those who inhale.

TMJ Treatment

A dental splint (also called a night guard or mouthguard) is a custom-made appliance worn over your teeth to protect them from grinding (bruxism) and clenching. It acts as a barrier to prevent tooth wear, fractures, and jaw strain.

Teeth grinding can cause serious damage over time, including worn enamel, cracked teeth, jaw pain, and headaches. A custom dental splint helps protect your teeth and reduces pressure on your jaw muscles and joints.

Common signs include waking up with jaw pain or headaches, sensitive or worn-down teeth, clicking or discomfort in the jaw (TMJ), and broken fillings or repeated dental repairs.

No. A sports mouthguard is designed to absorb impact during physical activity, while a dental splint is specifically designed to manage grinding forces and jaw alignment during sleep.

Your dentist takes precise digital or physical impressions of your teeth. The splint is then custom-made in a dental lab to ensure a perfect fit, comfort, and optimal protection.

Over-the-counter mouthguards are not recommended for long-term use. They are bulky, poorly fitted, and may worsen jaw problems. A custom-made splint provides better comfort, durability, and protection.

The cost of a custom dental splint in Sydney typically ranges from $700 to $1,200, depending on the type and complexity. Many health funds partially cover the cost, often reducing out-of-pocket expenses.

A splint does not stop the habit itself but prevents damage caused by grinding. It protects your teeth and helps reduce muscle strain and symptoms like jaw pain and headaches.

A properly fitted custom splint should feel comfortable after a short adjustment period. Most patients get used to it within a few nights and often notice improved sleep quality.

Yes. A dental splint can help relieve symptoms of TMJ disorders by reducing pressure on the jaw joint and allowing muscles to relax.

With proper care, a high-quality dental splint can last between 3 to 7 years. However, heavy grinders may need replacement sooner due to wear.

Clean your splint daily using a soft toothbrush and lukewarm water. Avoid hot water, as it can warp the material. Regular dental check-ups ensure it remains in good condition.

A professionally made and monitored splint will not damage your teeth. In fact, it helps preserve your natural tooth structure and prevent long-term bite problems.

For best results, it should be worn consistently every night. Irregular use reduces its effectiveness and allows ongoing damage from grinding.

Booking a consultation with an experienced dentist is the first step. At Paddington Dentistry, we provide custom-made dental splints designed for comfort, durability, and long-term protection.

Teeth Whitening

Teeth whitening is not permanent, and the length of time it lasts can depend on your lifestyle habits as well as the ageing process.

Taking in foods and drinks that cause staining can reduce the whiteness and brightness of the teeth quickly. After you have had your teeth professionally whitened, it’s best to avoid the following:

  • Coffee, tea and red winewhite teeth
  • Curries, berries and red vegetables such as peppers

It’s best to avoid these types of foods and beverages to prolong the effect of whitening for a year or so. That isn’t always realistic, however. Some people use a straw to drink teeth-staining beverages, and this might be an option to consider. You can also rinse your mouth with water after consuming anything that might cause staining.

If you smoke cigarettes or use tobacco products, these can also stain the teeth, even after whitening. The ageing process also causes teeth to take on a yellowed tinge.

Professional Teeth Whitening

We use the Zoom! Teeth Whitening System for optimal teeth bleaching results. For more information and to book a consult, we invite you to call our Paddington, NSW dental clinic. Our dentists can talk to you about professional teeth whitening as well as offer tips on how to keep your teeth as white as possible after treatment.

Digital Dental X-Rays

Many of our patients are worried about radiation exposure, and minimising patient risk is just one of the reasons we use digital dental x-rays in our dental clinic. Most of us are exposed to more radiation just living our daily lives taking a walk in the sunshine or flying across country on an airplane.

Benefits of Digital X-Rays

xrayThe benefits of digital x-rays far outweigh the potential for any risk. Because digital x-rays let us see far beyond what we can see with a visual examination alone, we can detect and treat dental issues while they are still small. Prevention of dental problems is always our goal, and with digital x-rays we can often minimise dental issues. Treatment, when needed, is usually less invasive, often costs less and takes less time to administer.

Digital x-rays enable us to detect tooth decay in its earliest stages, so the filling is much smaller. In addition, your dentist is probably the one healthcare professional who examines your mouth regularly, and an x-ray might be able to spot any abnormalities that could point to oral cancer. Oral cancer is treatable—but it is best that it be caught early. Digital x-rays can also help us ensure that your gums are healthy.

We invite you to contact our Paddington, NSW dental clinic to discuss any concerns over the safety of digital dental x-rays.
